DIGITAL PRODUCT PASSPORT

The data carrier for all product data

New EU regulation is making Digital Product Passports a condition of doing business across the metallic value chain. ChainTraced provides a clear, low-effort path to readiness – and a head start while it still counts. Because the reality is, verified product data is our future.
Iron & steel is the first sector affected by the EU ESPR regulation.

What we assess together

A focused, no-preparation conversation tailored to your organisation. In one hour we map your real starting point.

1 Where you stand against upcoming requirements
2 Your primary data — what you have, and what is missing
3 How product data flows across your operation today
4 The fastest, lowest-effort path to your first passport

A plan mapped to your starting point

We come back with a clear, staged project plan — so you always know the next step and who owns it.

Phase 1 Map your data sources
Phase 2 Connect systems & suppliers
Phase 3 Validate & align product data
Phase 4 Issue your first passport
Indicative phasing — your plan is sized to your data and systems.

From scattered data to one source of truth

Today, the proof of a product lives in a patchwork of files and inboxes. We pull it together, align it, and turn it into a single verified passport.

THE SHIFT

Traceability is no longer a nice-to-have
– Two key business drivers

For producers in the metallic value chain, the Digital Product Passport is more than just a compliance requirement. Its true significance lies in its commercial impact –directly linked to growth, the ability to secure deals, and maintaining market relevance as regulations evolve. Early adopters already demonstrate that DPP-readiness is a market differentiator.
1
Growth
Verified product data is soon the entry ticket to new customers and markets. Become a trustworthy player that is easily chosen with confidence and watch your DPPs open doors that closed data keeps shut.
2
Reliable business deals
Buyers increasingly require proof of origin, carbon footprint and compliance before they award contracts. The passport becomes part of the bid — and part of keeping it.
3
Lasting market presence
When both the market and regulatory requirements tighten across the metallic value chain, the suppliers who can provide verified data in a neatly, traceable structure (DPP) secures relevance for the long term.
1
BUSINESS VALUE
Streamline existing data exchange
One digital format unifies our industry and fuels efficiency, resulting in faster verification and fewer errors across the supply chain.
Mill Test Certificates (MTCs)
Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
Declarations of Conformity (DoCs)
A single digital format replaces all of these
2
BUSINESS VALUE
Align environmental performance reporting
Comparable, harmonised environmental data is essential to reward low-carbon steel and unlock the green premium.
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)
Recycled content (pre- & post-consumer)
law-scale
Declarations of Conformity (DoCs)
Unlocks the decarbonisation business case
ESPR – Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation

The rules are arriving, steel is first in line

The Digital Product Passport originates in the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action, they identified the need for more specific product information to increase incentives for producers to make products more circular. In 2024, these policy ambitions were translated into legislation through the EU’s ESPR. The metallic value chain is among the first sectors it touches, starting with iron & steel in 2027.

By then, producers must ensure the required product information is available in a digital format, is auditable and accurate  – and that back-up copies are provided for each product placed on market.
In force
The EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is adopted and live as the framework that introduces the Digital Product Passport.
Iron & steel prioritised
You are here
Steel and metals are named among the first product groups in scope – making this sector the front line of the DPP rollout in 2027.
Delegated acts ahead
Product-specific rules will define exactly what each passport must carry, and by when. The detail is still being written.
DPP becomes mandatory
A passport becomes a requirement to place affected products on the EU market, not an option.
